Faith Is A Verb

Jesse

“. . . What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen.” (Hebrews 11:1)

We’ve all heard from DC Talk that love is a verb. Love is to be shown through you deeds and actions and is not simply an emotion.

But did you also know that faith is a verb?

It’s apart of you that requires action.

“So you see, it isn’t enough just to have faith. Faith that doesn’t show itself by good deeds is no faith at all—it is dead and useless. Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” I say, “I can’t see your faith if you don’t have good deeds, but I will show you my faith through my good deeds.” (James 2:17-18)

Faith alone is useless without doing something about what you actually believe in.

If you are a Christian and have faith in God to meet your needs, yet you put no effort into it, I’m sorry to say, but you will be sorrowfully disappointed; wondering why God isn’t answering your prayers.

We’re all guilty of expecting God to deliver while we sit on our butts waiting and wondering.

You not only need to believe in the person God made you to be, you have to believe, you have to know, that you need to work towards what you ask of God.

Did you know God has faith in you to accomplish supernatural things in this world?

Then have faith in yourself! God didn’t make you to be a helpless human being. If you are asking God to provide for your needs, the next question you need to be asking is how are you working to accomplish this goal?

One of the best examples I can think of for what faith and action looks like is from Gideon, the man who literally was up against the world without a chance of victory or survival.

God called Gideon to answer the requests of the Israelites who were under the rule of the Midianites. God’s people were looking for liberation from their oppressors and, in His unusual fashion, God selected a rather unremarkable, unknown man to lead Israel to freedom. Facing more than ten thousand Midianites, Gideon and his reduced army of three hundred went into the Midianite camp and soon were aided in defeating and conquering the enemy.

Can you imagine the doubts creeping into Gideon’s mind? Doubts that were attempting to shake the foundations of his faith. Doubts questioning whether or not God could really do what He said He would. No doubt these thoughts were prompted by the devil himself, just as he did with Eve in the Garden of Eden when questioning God’s Word and promises.

“. . . If your faith remains strong after being tried by fiery trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.” (1 Peter 1:7)

Do you put your faith into action? Or are you hoping God will just do everything you ask for you?

Now is the time to switch gears and realign your thinking.

Now is the time for a call to action.

Faith is a verb.

Now get off your butt.
